How to enjoy grocery shopping with your toddler

Do you dread bringing the toddler to the grocery store?

This article shows how to avoid problems at the grocery store with your toddler, and how to enjoy grocery shopping with your toddler.

You can build up anticipation of grocery shopping with your toddler. You have to plan the shopping trip before getting out of your house. You have to treat grocery shopping as a chance to teach your toddler. Prepare to engage your toddler at the grocery store.

You have to set the ground rule for grocery shopping. You have to tell your toddler that grabbing the cans from the shelves is not acceptable behavior. You have to tell your toddler that crying and screaming is not acceptable. You have to tell him what you expect of him when you are buying grocery.

You can explain to him that his favorite cartoon character does not want him to behave badly. You can make the expectations clear before going out of the house for grocery shopping. Make him promise to behave properly when you bring him for grocery shopping. Remind him on the way to the grocery store.

You can make grocery shopping as engaging and interesting to your toddler. For example, when you are at the fruits section, you can tell your toddler that you need five apples. Ask him where the apples are located. If he can point out the proper fruits, do praise him. Ask him to count when you pick one apple after another.

You can pick up seven apples, and ask him to verify that you have five apples. Give him a sticker when he tells you that you are picking seven apples, and not five apples.

When you shop for baby products, let your toddler make the buying decision. If he picks up the expensive item, you can reason with him that you have no money to buy sweets for him if he insists on buying that expensive item. Grocery shopping is a time to teach him the value of money.

Toddler has a short attention span. You should learn to do grocery shopping quickly. Once you have selected items from the canned food section, do move to the next aisle. Always keep him engage in conversation during grocery shopping and do not let his attention drift.

Do not let your attention drift too. Even if you meet your best friend, do keep an eye on your toddler. Do not let him have a chance to upset all the canned sardines from the shelves. Do cut short your conversation with your best friend. Promise to call when your toddler is having afternoon nap.

It does take time and creativity to make grocery shopping with your toddler an enjoyable experience.
