All kind of people do get rich, like writers, singers, actors, politicians, scientists, sportsmen and a lot more in other professions. All do not get rich easily. Even professional gamblers trained themselves to know all the tricks of the card games.

Almost all the people who are self-made billionaires put in a lot of effort and time initially. The desire to get rich is not enough to bring money raining from heavens. The desire to be rich must have corresponding effort to turn it into reality.

Not many people are healthy and wealthy.

Some people are unhealthy and poor. These are the ones who can never get out of poverty short of striking the lottery.

Can anyone get rich without good health? Maybe, but I would think it's very hard. Imagine having cancer, heart problem, suffering from kidney failures and being a diabetic. How on earth can anyone with this kind of rotten health condition make a lot of money and get rich?

Having a reasonable good health is essential for anyone who wants to get rich.

Getting rich is a long process. Gettting rich requires a person working long hours, working hard and full mental concentration. Without a good health, getting rich is difficult.

Folks, if you cannot be rich, at least dont be poor. Take care of your health to keep the medical cost at bay.

You may think that the insurance companies are going to take care of you and pay for your medical bills. Bear in mind that insurance companies are not stupid, they know how to set the lifetime limits. They may even refuse to renew your medical insurance.

All the riches in the world are no use to you if you are in poor health.

So folks, be healthy and get rich. Even if you can't get as rich as you desire, you can still enjoy life with your good health.

Time value of money is the first lesson in Finance.

Put it simply, the time value of money means a dollar you hold today is equal to a dollar and 2 cents, or a dollar of 6 cents or even more depending on the interest rate and your investment strategy.

If you park your money in a fixed deposit, a dollar today may increase to a dollar and 1 cent a year later.

If you park your money in the stock market, your dollar today may increase to a dollar and 20 cents a year later.

Conversely, a dollar that you will receive 5 years later will mean less to you today. You may expect that 80 cents today will yield you the value of a dollar in 5 years time.

There are a few famous Chinese classics that survived till our age. Liaozhai Zhiyi is one of them.

Efficient Market?

In finance, there is a term called Efficient Market Hypothesis. It basically says that the price of the shares in the stock exchange is a good reflection of all the available information of a company.
Most people know that stock market is not perfectly efficient. They believe that it is highly efficient.

If the company releases a worse than expected quarterly report, the share price of the company will drop sharply.

If the company releases a better than expected report, the share price will shoot up.

But is the market really efficient? Given that the share prices are determined by imperfect investors, many of whom react out of fear and greed, we do not expect a perfectly or even a highly efficient market.

When the news is bad, people often over-react and causes the share price to drop too steeply. When the news is unexpectedly good, people also over-react and causes the share price to shoot through the roof.

The market is not efficient at all in the short run. That is why a lot of cool-headed investors can make a lot of money and become very rich.

In the long run, the market is efficient. A good company with successful business model will command a good price in the stock market.

So folks, invest with your head and control your emotions. If you are able to do so, you will be able to make a lot of money and be the next famous multi-billionaire investor.

If you are stricken with fear when the share price drops or are too happy to sleep when the share price goes up, then the stock market is not for you. Please find other means of investment to make and grow your money.

Trip to Genting Highland

S$88 for a return trip from Singapore to Genting Highland seems a good deal, especially when the package includes 2 nights accommodation and a buffet breakfast. The casino in Genting Highland is really huge, there are so many slot machines there.

The total cost is not so impressive, after all, I lost a hundred ringgit at the casino. And that is after I read so many "how to win" articles. Apparently playing slot machine is not a good way to make money and get rich.

Guess my dear Lady Luck is sleeping while I'm playing.

Market Timing

Many people admire those who claim that they can time the market, particularly the stock market.

Even after the richest investors warn again and again that it is impossible to time the market, many people still think that market timing is possible, if you know how.

Maybe good timing is impossible, but bad timing is possible.

Speaking from personal experience, whenever I buy a stock, the price goes down further. Whenever I sell a stock, the price shoots through the roof.

If I don't buy the stock, the share price goes up. And I will suffer from the "if only I buy, I will be xxx dollars richer."

If I don't sell the stock, the share price falls sharply. Again I will suffer from the "if only I sell, I will make xxx dollars in profit."

So the moral of the story is: Good timing is not possible (at least, for me) and bad timing always happen (again, for me).
