Baby and Fresh Air

Fresh air is important to humans, including babies.

Taking in pure and fresh air is good for the health of the baby. The nursery therefore must be airy and well ventilated to enable baby to take in fresh air. The nursery located in an elevated part of the house is better.

The nursery which is bright and airy is good for the health of the baby.

The bedroom of the baby should be large and air too. It is not good for the baby to sleep in an impure and heated location. The practice of drawing thick curtains closely round the bed is highly destructive to the health of the baby. When parents draw thick curtains, they serve only a useful purpose to protect the baby from any draught of cold air.

The proper time for taking the baby into the open air must be determined by weather and season.

A delicate baby born in the late autumn will not benefit from being carried into the open air. The weather is cold and bitter, and does more harm to the baby. The baby should be kept indoor until the succeeding spring.

If the rooms in which the baby is kept are large and well ventilated, the baby will not suffer from the confinement. The baby will escape from catarrhal affections, which are always the consequence of the indiscreet exposure of babies to a cold and humid atmosphere.

In case the baby is strong and healthy, the parent should bring the baby into the open air regularly. It is good for the baby to breath in the fresh air in the open. It will have the most invigorating and vitalizing influence for the baby.

However, the parents must always pay attention to the weather. The baby should not expose to a hot and humid environment, since this environment is the most powerful causes of consumptive diseases for baby.

The babysitter should not be allowed to expose the baby to harsh weather unnecessarily or for a lengthy time. Over-exposure of the baby to open air is generally the source of all the diseases.
